Soil Regeneration

for the Next Generation

– Gulf Coast –

Reaching 4 regions in Florida’s Gulf Coast: Manatee, Sarasota, Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties

This project is a regional partnership proposal between Sunshine Community Compost (SCC) and Pinellas Community Composting Alliance (PCCA) to fill a niche in the Tampa Bay region for growing composting education and “wasted food” awareness for our region’s youth.

We will offer education and outreach programs on composting and food waste. The project will enable our organizations to collectively teach up to 500 youth, ranging from ages 2- 21 years old.

Community composting reaches into people’s lives, where they work, live, play, school, and enjoy recreation. Together, communities across the nation are using unique, place and culture-based community composting program  to transform and challenge the notion of “waste” – bringing forth new life, spreading the messages and secrets of the soil, while demonstrating a special contribution that humans can make to help create closed-loop food system cycles, from garden-to-table-to-soil again.

This collaboration will help not only our youth and their adult stewards, but also provide data points to understand how to grow clearing the path for broader statewide collaborations benefiting our Florida youth.
